What Were the Most Popular Procedures in 2020?

Flipping wooden cubes for new year change 2020 to 2021Although last year certainly presented us all with challenges, plastic surgeons across the country were able to continue providing safe, state-of-the-art cosmetic procedures with reinforced safety protocols in place for COVID-19.

During the worst of the pandemic in 2020, plastic surgeons across the country closed their practices to help stop the spread. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, practices nationally stopped performing elective procedures for an average of 8 weeks in 2020, which of course meant fewer elective procedures than usual were performed overall.

An infographic showing the most popular procedures in 2020Nonetheless, as practices reopened with new safety measures in place to prevent the spread, there were more than 2,314,720 procedures performed in 2020, which was a 14 percent decrease from 2019. Statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show that facial procedures were at the head of the pack in 2020:

When you think about it, it makes sense that people sought facial enhancement and rejuvenation when so many of us shifted to video chat meetings. Suddenly, we were all looking at our computers but saw ourselves staring back! Men and women alike sought out procedures to restore defined eyelid contours, and lift sagging facial skin and descending jawlines.

As we reach the mid-summer season of 2021, and a return to normalcy, the ASPS reports a strong interest in cosmetic procedures. If you’ve been considering one for yourself, we hope you will visit Dr. Fugo to find out how we can help you refresh, beautify, and rejuvenate your face and body.
