What to Look for in Before and After Photos for Breast Augmentation

Beautiful brunette woman posing in red lingerie, bodysuit. Many patients, when planning their breast augmentation, get a little inspiration or assistance from photos. Before and after photos, in particular, can be quite helpful in pinpointing the kind of change that is desired. Fugo Plastic Surgery has a robust before and after gallery of breast procedures. While the images found on our site, or on other plastic surgery sites, can provide some guidance, you need to know exactly how they can work for you as you navigate your surgical journey. Here, we discuss what to look for as you peruse images of breast augmentation results.

Extensive Gallery

One reason it is beneficial to observe a doctor’s before and after gallery is that it gives you a sense of the number of procedures they perform. The number of breast procedures the doctor has performed translates into experience, and experience translates into you getting the best results based on your body type, lifestyle, and preferences.

Diversity in Body Type

Breast augmentation is a highly customized procedure that involves much more than choosing between saline or silicone implants. It is important that you find before and after photos that reflect your body proportions. This can help you better determine the size and profile of breast implant that would best suit your body frame. In our gallery, you can find examples of patients with subtle size increases or more dramatic enhancement. You can see patients who are thinner with little body fat and patients who are naturally curvier. The diversity in our gallery exemplifies Dr. Fugo’s experience treating a wide variety of patients.

Natural-Looking Curves

Breast augmentation has been a popular procedure for so long that it has transitioned through trends in body type. Of the many breast revision surgeries that are sought today, the majority of them are performed to refine the shape and size of the breasts to better align with the patient’s current cosmetic goals. The primary goal that patients express is wanting natural-looking proportions.

Breast Symmetry

The correction of breast asymmetry is a common reason for having breast augmentation. A before and after gallery can help you begin to observe your doctor’s experience with this problem. Most women have some degree of breast asymmetry, with one breast slightly larger than the other. More dramatic imbalance requires a skilled eye and the expert use of different-sized breast implants to achieve a symmetrical look.

Upper Face Rejuvenation Designed around Your Needs

35 year old blonde woman with clean fresh face and hands with long hairThe upper face holds a lot of weight, so to speak, in the overall appearance of the face. Drooping eyebrows are a common sign of aging, though one that many people don’t expect to occur nearly as early as it does. Sometimes, drooping is subtle and mildly irritating. For some people, though, one eyebrow may droop significantly more than the other, or both eyebrows may droop to degree that affects the upper eyelids. Here, we’ll discuss surgical and non-surgical solutions to help rejuvenate the upper face.

Brow Lift Surgery

Brow lift surgery has been popular for many years. An outpatient procedure, the brow lift may be performed using general or local anesthesia. The purpose of this surgical technique is to eliminate creases across the forehead, smooth away frown lines, and restore optimal brow position. For women, the eyebrows should rest right along the upper orbital rim, if not slightly higher. Men’s eyebrows may sit at or just below that bony ridge.

Dr. Fugo uses an endoscopic brow lift technique. This method reduces the amount of scarring that occurs down to two small lines. Incisions are situated behind the hairline where they are not visible whether the hair is worn up or down. Using small endoscopes, the doctor lifts the skin and underlying muscle to a more youthful, attractive position. After a brief recovery period of about 10 days, patients enjoy long-lasting results from this procedure.

Xeomin

Non-surgical treatment for drooping brows may be preferred by patients who want to avoid surgery or who would like to get an idea of what a surgical brow lift may accomplish. Xeomin is an injectable wrinkle-reducer that works by relaxing the muscles into which the FDA-approved drug is inserted. In addition to treating drooping brows, Xeomin may also be injected higher on the forehead to smooth horizontal lines or near the central part of the eyebrows to eliminate frown lines.

There are benefits to a non-surgical brow lift, such as the absence of downtime. The results of injectable treatment build over several days, so patients should not expect immediate improvement. The outcome of treatment can last three to six months and may be repeated as often as every three months to maintain the ideal brow position.

A youthful face looks alert and lively. Drooping brows can compromise this. To explore your best brow lift option, contact our plastic surgery office in New Windsor, NY at (845) 565-7040. We would love to schedule a complimentary consultation for you.

Looking for Cool Gifts for Dad? Stop Right Here!

Shirtless White Man With Beautiful Hair is smiling and lookingDad tends to be one of the most difficult people to buy for. This makes Father’s Day more challenging than it needs to be. As you think forward about gifts for Father’s Day, you can benefit from thinking outside the box. At our office in New Windsor, NY, we don’t believe in waiting another minute to embody confidence. We help our patients feel more confident about their appearance as quickly as possible. CoolSculpting facilitates this.

Body contouring has historically been a treatment extended to women. As ideologies and technologies have evolved, treatment options have expanded, as well. As we approach Father’s Day, we want to shed light on a treatment that can help Dad feel more confident and satisfied with his body.

CoolSculpting is the most popular body contouring treatment outside of surgery. Before this treatment, unwanted fat was addressed surgically with procedures like liposuction, abdominoplasty, and other techniques. This nonsurgical treatment is a leading form of body contouring because it is proven to achieve consistent results. Patients appreciate that they can schedule treatment amidst their busy lives and not have to worry about post-treatment downtime because there isn’t any. The results of CoolSculpting are another aspect of treatment to appreciate. Body proportions start to noticeably improve after just two weeks and continue to progress for up to 12 weeks.

CoolSculpting in a Nutshell

Body contouring treatments aren’t just for women. Men who have children, as well as men who do not yet answer to “Dad” express interest in non-surgical treatments that address cosmetic concerns. CoolSculpting is one of the most well-known modalities due to its versatility in treating a wide variety of areas, such as:

  • Submental region (double chin)
  • Chest
  • Upper arms
  • Abdomen
  • Flanks

Why CoolSculpting is Great for Dad

Father’s Day is notoriously difficult. There are several reasons why. The primary reason is that men do not customarily discuss their needs. Dads are now learning that their expression of needs or wants, including the desire to feel more confident in their Dad Bod, is not selfish. As a result, we perform nearly as many surgical and non-surgical body contouring treatments on men as we do women.

CoolSculpting is one of the most popular non-surgical body contouring treatments available today. The reason is simple; CoolSculpting works. If you are looking for an out-of-the-box gift for Father’s Day next month, consider how CoolSculpting could help the dad in your life feel his absolute best. 3 Common Blepharoplasty Questions

An older woman smiles and touches her hand to her jawThe appearance of our eyes is integral to our interpersonal connections. Next to our smile, it is our eyes that people tend to notice right away. Eyelids that lose their shape and contour with age can send misleading messages. Aging eyelids may indicate that we are tired, unmotivated, or unfriendly based solely on appearance. To improve appearance and restore an accurate representation of personality and vitality, many people undergo blepharoplasty.

Below are three common questions about this facial procedure.

1. What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to rejuvenate the upper or lower eyelids. The procedure may be performed specifically for cosmetic improvement or it may be necessary to address functional problems caused by loose tissue. Upper and lower blepharoplasties are two of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures performed today.

2. Who Is an Ideal Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Adults who are in good health and do not have significant vision problems may be excellent candidates for blepharoplasty. This form of eyelid rejuvenation is often sought by adults in the middle of life, but it may also be beneficial for people with naturally low-lying eyelids. In general, blepharoplasty is suitable for people who have puffiness or sagging under the eyes or significant sagging of the upper eyelid that is obscuring the natural crease. Patients should not smoke. If you smoke and you’re considering blepharoplasty, it is wise to stop now so your body has ample time to reset its circulation efficiency.

Blepharoplasty is a satisfying procedure that can rejuvenate the appearance of the entire face by opening up the eyes. Patients should know that this procedure is not designed to correct crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes, nor dark circles. These concerns may respond well to non-surgical treatment using dermal fillers.

3. How Long Will the Results of My Blepharoplasty Last?

Several factors can influence how long blepharoplasty results last. Generally, done once, done right and with ongoing skin care and protection of the face from further UV damage, you should not require reoperation for decades. Often, the upper blepharoplasty may also be combined with a brow lift if the patient desires more comprehensive rejuvenation of the upper face. Blepharoplasty results can last indefinitely.

Sun exposure is one of the primary factors that may reduce the longevity of blepharoplasty results. To protect your results, protect the skin around the eyes. Find proper serums and moisturizers that nourish the skin. Use SPF-rated eye cream daily and, when it’s sunny and you’ll be out and about, don sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat.

Do Plastic Surgery Scars Go Away?

A close up of a woman pinching her belly fat wearing a black t shirt and black underwearMost people who are considering plastic surgery want to know about the scars. It’s true that all of these procedures will leave behind some degree of scarring because incisions are made in the deeper layers of skin. These scars will be permanent, although their appearance “matures” over time, typically becoming less red, less raised and generally less visible.

How bad will the scar be?

It’s completely understandable to be nervous about scars. After all, you want your results to be worth the tradeoff of scars. We can tell you anecdotally that the vast majority of patients love their results and find the scars to be of no cponsequence in the long-term minimal. You can view Dr. Fugo’s before-and-after photos prior to or following your consultation, alloowing you to visualize how real patients wear their scars.

There are numerous factors that will influence the final look of the scar(s), including:

  • The location of the scar
  • Genetics
  • Personal history of scarring (what other scars look like on your body)
  • Steps taken to minimize scarring as it heals (silicone sheets, sun protection, and proper care as outlined by our team)

Rely on us to walk you through all of the ways you can promote effective scar-healing with aftercare that will prevent worsening the appearance of the scars.

Will it be obvious to other people?

It really depends. When you are nude, it is possible that certain scars will be visible, albeit flatter than they were at first and closer to your natural skin color. It is largely individual how these scars will look.

As for the placement on your body, it’s entirely dependent on the type of procedure. Incisions are made on the area being treated and tend to vary with the amount of skin and tissue being modified. Liposuction is an example of a procedure that uses small, subcentimeter incisions that can be well-hidden. Even tummy tuck scars are typically concealed beneath panties and swimsuit bottoms. In all cases, Dr. Fugo makes incisions that are as hidden and minimal as possible.

What can I do to make it as minimal as possible?

There are several ways you can be mindful about scar care and promoting the proper healing of scars:

  • Follow the aftercare and recovery instructions exactly
  • Follow our directions for which scar products options to choose and which to avoid
  • Attend your follow-up appointments with Dr. Fugo
  • Wear sunscreen over the scar anytime it is exposed (after it has healed)
  • Choose a plastic surgeon who is experienced and qualified

Although the final appearance of a scar is to a large extent out of a person’s control (because of genetics and your skin’s natural propensities), we will make sure you know about everything that is within your control.

Cosmetic Surgery for Wrinkles

A beautiful blonde woman in a gray tank top smiles with the city in the backgroundThere are many different treatments for fine lines and wrinkles – some of them surgical, some of them minimally invasive. You may even be able to combine more than one treatment for optimal results.

If you are unhappy with lines on your face, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Jonathan Fugo. He will examine your skin, discuss your concerns with you, and help you choose the options that will work.

Xeomin. Just like BOTOX Cosmetic, this injectable softens the appearance of fine lines and creases caused by repeated facial expressions. It is ideal for softening folds between the eyebrows, across the forehead, and at the outer corners of your eyes. So if it is frown lines and crow’s feet that you are unhappy with, then this injectable might be the right option!

Facelift. It is possible that it’s actually sagging skin and jowls that you are unhappy with, and not necessarily the wrinkles alone. If so, then a facelift might be the right option. This procedure can be customized to meet your unique concerns, but generally you can expect a more defined jawline, reduction of deep folds around your mouth and nose, and reduction of the wrinkles and banding on your neck, and generally a more youthful looking facial appearance.

Brow lift. If you have deep wrinkles stretching across your forehead, then you may be a good candidate for a brow lift. This procedure elevates the brow so that it is smoother and firmer, but without sacrificing natural-looking results.

Dermal fillers. Oftentimes wrinkles are caused by the natural loss of fat and collagen below your skin. In these cases, the wrinkles can essentially be filled in and smoothed out with dermal filler injections. These injectables can be used on many areas of the face.

Common Cosmetic Surgery Myths

The word Myths is spelled out with wooden blocks on a white table with a small green plant in the backgroundPlastic surgery in some form has been performed for hundreds of years. Given its extensive history, it’s no surprise that a bevy of myths surround this field of medicine. Experienced and dedicated plastic surgeons like Dr. Jonathan Fugo are here to dispel these rumors and provide you with the clear, accurate information you deserve.

While there is no shortage of myths to debunk, here are a few of the most common:

Myth: Facelifts create a windswept, pulled look.

Facelift techniques have come a long way over the years. While older surgical methods, based on antiquated understanding of facial aging, involved the simplistic lifting and pulling of the skin and underlying soft tissues, today’s techniques include adding conservative, appropriate volume to areas of lost volume, BEFORE performing any soft tissue repositioning, while sometimes shortening the deep, structural layers beneath the skin. The result is natural-looking rejuvenation that maintains the expressiveness of your face.

Myth: Lip augmentation creates “duck lips.”

Lip augmentation is tailored individually, for a naturally full look. While some people want a more substantial, full pout, others want a more subtle increase in volume and shape. The key is to discuss your goals with Dr. Fugo. Together you can create the effect you want to see.

Myth: People can always tell if you had your breasts enhanced.

Like all plastic surgery, breast surgery is customized to your goals. If you want a subtle breast augmentation, reduction, or lift, Dr. Fugo can provide those results. Most women want natural-looking results, but it’s also possible to create round, large breasts that may look quite a bit different from your natural breasts. Once again, it’s all about choosing the implant features that will create the results you want.

It’s easy to be led astray as you search for answers. Rely on Dr. Fugo, like so many others have, to provide the answers you deserve.

How Long Does Breast Augmentation Last?

Close up of a woman laughing with her hair falling over one side of her faceWomen interested in breast augmentation generally want to know that the results will last. Breast augmentation is many things, including an investment. Like any investment, you want to be sure that the return is well-worth it!

When performed properly, breast augmentation results should never need to be re-done unless some issue arises that you would like to change or address. It is true that the rate of rupture may increase after the first decade, but only minutely. In the event that rupture or some other complication does occur, your breast implants can be replaced at that time.

Dr. Fugo works to reduce the necessity for breast implant replacement by carefully planning a breast augmentation procedure that is personalized to your goals and your body. Aspects of planning that may affect longevity include choosing a size that is right for the current breast pocket, choosing an incision location, and choosing whether to place the implant below or above the chest muscle. Additionally, Dr. Fugo will provide you with detailed aftercare and recovery instructions. Following those to a T will prevent adverse events and contribute to the longevity of your breast implant results.

Sometimes a breast augmentation patient wishes to replace their breast implants to:

  • Change the size
  • Change from saline to silicone
  • Remove breast implants completely

If you feel this way, we encourage you to discuss breast implant revision with Dr. Fugo. He will provide guidance and advice, ultimately helping you find a solution so you can continue to enjoy your breast enhancement results.

Dr. Fugo uses Mentor breast implants for all breast augmentation surgeries. As an added benefit, Mentor implants are warrantied for your entire lifetime. If an implant ruptures or deflates, Mentor will replace the implant free of charge, plus the other implant if you and Dr. Fugo decide to replace both. The replacement implants will be the same style as the originals.

If you are curious about implant longevity and other aspects of breast augmentation, we hope you’ll discuss those issues with Dr. Fugo. As a plastic surgeon with many years of experience, Dr. Fugo can make sure you are armed with complete information.

What is Liposuction?

A woman in fitness underwear and a crop top with short bob hair poses athletically in front of a blue backgroundLiposuction is the surgical reduction of excess fat cells. It’s a very common procedure, with more than 200,000 performed in the U.S. in 2020. The basic idea is that excessive fat is suctioned out of the treatment area. These excess fat cells aren’t necessary for overall health, and removing them can be the leg up you need when diet and exercise have no effect on the stubborn fat.

Liposuction can be tailored to areas of fat both large and small. Some of the most common treatment locations are:

  • Hips
  • Butt
  • Abdomen
  • Back
  • Axilla, Breasts and Chest
  • Waist
  • Flanks
  • Inner Thighs
  • Inner Knees
  • Neck

If you aren’t sure whether liposuction or another body contouring procedure is right for your area of concern, then we hope you’ll contact Dr. Fugo to learn more. He’ll first want to listen fully to what you have to say about the changes you’d like to see. He takes dedicated time with each person to make sure everything is discussed. After learning more about your expectations and examining the area you’d like to treat, Dr. Fugo will be able to tell you whether liposuction will be a good match, and if you should consider other body procedures like a tummy tuck or thigh lift.

Small incisions are used to complete liposuction. The fat is suctioned away with a narrow plastic tube that is topped by a narrow stainless steel tube called a cannula. The cannula is inserted through very small circular incisions, so the resulting scars are not obvious. In fact, most people feel like the scars in no way indicate surgery was performed once they are fully healed.

The fat that is removed is gone for good. It is still possible to gain new weight after liposuction, so an active and fit lifestyle is an important part of maintaining your results.

What’s the Difference between Xeomin, Dysport and BOTOX?

A woman looks playfully over her shoulder while smilingDr. Jonathan Fugo provides Xeomin injections because he has found that this brand offers the best results to his patients. If you aren’t sure whether Xeomin will work for your goals, we encourage you to give us a call. We can tell you more about the features and benefits of this type of wrinkle treatment.

Xeomin, Dysport and BOTOX Cosmetic are injectable wrinkle-relaxers made by separate manufacturing companies. You can think of them as similar injectables but different brands. These injectables have a lot in common, including the following benefits:

  • Non-surgical
  • Non-invasive
  • No recovery period
  • No anesthesia, incisions, or sutures
  • Effective wrinkle-smoothing results

An infographic showing the benefits of Xeomin injectionsThese injectables work because of botulinum toxin, a material that is safe in the amounts used for injection purposes. Botulinum toxin blocks the chemical communication happening between the targeted nerve and muscle. This block prevents the muscle from contracting, which in turn prevents the skin from folding in that area. The active folding itself forms a wrinkle, like when you furrow your brow together and those vertical creases form between your eyebrows. As you age, the inevitable diminishing of collagen and elastin in your skin means that your skin becomes less elastic, and therefore the lines remain even after you’ve relaxed your face. The skin doesn’t smooth out immediately after you’ve stopped furrowing your brow, like it did when you were younger. Xeomin, Dysport and BOTOX (all similar injections) stop the muscle contraction from happening in the first place, so your skin will stay smooth and wrinkle free in that target area.

How Do I Know Which One Will Work for Me?

Many people wonder whether one wrinkle-relaxing injectable is better than the other. Oftentimes it comes down to personal preference. After years in practice, Dr. Fugo has settled on offering Xeomin to his patients because of the results this injectable provides. It also is the only botulinum injection made without any preservatives, providing the purist form of the natural molecule. It’s great for treating:

  • Glabellar lines between the eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet at the corners of your eyes
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Bunny lines on the sides of your nose
  • Gummy smile

Discuss your options with Dr. Fugo to make sure you are matched with the non-invasive treatment that will accomplish your goals.
