Ever popular, breast augmentation is one of the most commonly requested procedures at Dr. Fugo Plastic Surgery. The decision to actually undergo a breast augmentation is only the first of many choices to be made. Many patients find themselves overwhelmed by the flurry of decisions they are faced with. Dr. Fugo strives to make this process as easy for you as possible. Let us help you. After all, our goal is to help you achieve yours.

Get an Idea of What You Want

It is important to know what you are looking for. “I ask my pre-operative breast patients to show me photos of breasts that represent the look they’re trying to achieve” says Dr. Fugo. As an experienced plastic surgeon, he can “then translate those photos into specific implant size and profile that will yield the result my patient wants. In these photos, body weight, height, skin color or tone is of no matter. I’m simply looking at the breasts themselves to determine my patient’s expectations and aesthetic goals. The patient and I can then speak openly about expectations and options to achieve this look.”

Looking at before and after photos can prove helpful in other ways. Looking for someone with a similar body type and breast shape not only help you decide what you want, but it may also give you a better idea of what you can expect.

Forget Cup Size

Often, women come in requesting a particular cup size. While it may be easy to say ‘I want to be a D’, cup size is not an accurate measure of breast size. Dr. Fugo emphasizes that “cup size is not a set value” and is largely arbitrary—cup size is dependent on the manufacture and can change dramatically from brand to brand. Cup size also fails to take into consideration shape and contour—two important factors to consider for your breast augmentation

Augmentation vs. Lift

Patients are often surprised to learn that an augmentation may not give them the results they are hoping for. An implant cannot shape a sagging breast. A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, remedies low hanging breasts. By removing excess skin, Dr. Fugo is able to position and place breasts higher on the chest—giving many patients the boosted, shapely figure they desire.

How do you know if a lift is necessary? Try this: Put on a regular, non-padded, non-pushup bra. Are you happy with your breast size? If so, you most likely need a breast lift over a breast augmentation. As Dr. Fugo explains, “you don’t need more volume, you just need the volume that you have placed back into a more youthful position”.

Listen, Learn, & Then Decide

Although it is good to have a clear expectations when it comes to your breast augmentation, it is equally important to go into your consultation with an open mind. Dr. Fugo’s expertise will be invaluable as you make decisions about your augmentation. Dr. Fugo will work with you to “discuss these points with you in detail, allowing you to make an informed, well-educated decision that you’ll feel good about”. Together, Dr. Fugo and you can create an augmentation best suited for you and your body. A true collaboration between Dr. Fugo and yourself will yield the best results.

At Dr. Fugo Plastic Surgery, we strive to make your breast augmentation process as smooth and easy as possible. Are you ready? Please schedule a consultation with Dr. Fugo.
